"Let's hit/strike the bell" is one way of saying it.
"Let's invite the bell to sound" is another.
Although the two expressions primarily mean the same thing, hearing the second one feels like music to the ears. This is to say that, in most cases, a secondary meaning piggybacks on the primary in our manner of expressing.
